Name redactor

Swap the names in a rent roll or other spreadsheet for IDs before you share it with an AI tool, then put them back in the result. It runs in your browser.

Before you start

Your company's AI use policy comes first. So does any NDA or confidentiality agreement that covers the file. Replacing names does not change what either one allows. If the policy or the agreement says the file cannot go into an AI tool, use the tool your firm has approved or stop here.

Your file is opened and changed in your browser, on this device. This tool does not upload it or send its contents anywhere.

Replace names with IDs

Each distinct value in the columns you select gets one ID, such as NAME-0001. The same value gets the same ID everywhere in the file, on every sheet. Blank cells and placeholders such as Vacant or N/A are left as they are.

Accepted: .csv, .xlsx and .xls. PDFs and scans are not supported.

What this tool does not catch

The tool replaces the values in the columns you choose and leaves everything else in the file as it is. Read this list before you share anything.

  • Names inside free-text cells. Notes, comments and descriptions can mention a tenant or a guarantor by name. The tool cannot read them for names. It can only empty the whole column.
  • Names in headers, sheet names and the file name. The same goes for title rows above the header row.
  • Addresses and unit numbers. Suite numbers, account numbers and other details can point to a person or a company without naming them.
  • Any column you did not select. The tool guesses from header text and can miss a column or pick the wrong one.
  • Different spellings of one name. "J. Smith" and "John Smith" get two different IDs.
  • Formulas that pull from a replaced cell. A formula elsewhere in the workbook can still hold the original value.
  • Excel workbooks. Every sheet is processed with one shared set of IDs, hidden sheets included. Check each sheet's columns before you run it.
  • PDFs, scans and images. They are not supported. Get an Excel or CSV export from the source, or use the tool your firm has approved.
