Virtual assistant support for colocation data centers

Cross connects, remote hands and badge access: the order queue behind a colocation floor, checked and tracked from a desk.

A placed professional can work a colocation operator's order queue from a desk: checking each cross connect order against its LOA, scoping remote hands requests and chasing missing cage details, keeping customer access rosters current, and logging inbound shipment notices. Technicians' floor work, security's ID checks and escorts, and dock inspection stay on site.

What you can delegate

Service desk and customer operations

  • Cross connect orders: logging each order from the portal, phone or email; reading the Z-side LOA or LOA-CFA for cage or cabinet, patch panel, port, authorization date and signature; checking connector type and the A-side and Z-side contacts; sending an incomplete order back to the customer; and tracking it until the field team has installed and tested the link, then confirming the close to both contacts.
  • Remote hands orders: taking in reboot, rack and stack, cabling and audit requests against a site, cage and cabinet; reviewing scope and returning orders that lack details or approval; scheduling each one as routine or expedited; converting a trouble ticket to billable remote hands when the customer's own equipment caused the fault; and following service cases and maintenance notices through the portal.

Security and access

  • Access and badge requests: confirming the requester is a customer administrator or holds permission to grant access, checking the request meets the operator's advance-notice requirement, setting and revoking access by account and location, ordering escorts for contractors and visitors, clearing badges switched off for inactivity, and pulling access activity reports for customer audits.

Shipping and receiving

  • Inbound shipments: recording each advance notice with carrier, tracking numbers, expected arrival, package count, weight and the customer's space so receiving can match the delivery; watching every received package against the storage window and chasing collection before fees or return; and closing the order once the shipment leaves the dock.

What stays on site

  • Technicians' work on the floor: installing, patching, testing and labeling each cross connect, and every remote hands job from a reboot to rack and stack.
  • On-site security: government-issued photo ID at check-in and badge pickup, biometric enrollment, temporary badges handed out and taken back, and escorts for visitors and contractors.
  • Dock inspection: receiving staff accept or reject each shipment, turning away hazardous materials and packages with no identification, and security releases equipment on its way out.
